On this page you can find an up to date list of all the gear I use. This includes everything from cameras, tech and travel accessories. The gear is split up into kits with each kit serving a specific purpose. For example the gear I take with me on a backpacking trip is vastly different to the one I would shoot a client project on.
Please keep in mind that it has taken me a very long time to save and invest in the below items. Furthermore, I do this for a living thus can justify higher end products due to tax deductions and because photo / video / travel is my main income. Please do not get into difficult financial positions and only purchase if you can afford it or it is required for a specific purpose. Everything below can be swapped for a cheaper alternative at half price without much sacrifice.
For most items, if you click on the image, it will take you to this product (or similar if no longer available) on Amazon, B&H or Moment. These are affiliate links and for you it will not cost any different. For me it means I get a tiny % of any purchase you make. Also by clicking any of the links, Amazon will still give me a small kickback even if you purchase something else. So for the smaller items that are not linked, simply click on a camera, then search for the item and I will still get a small commission.
Finally if you see me using other gear not mentioned below it’s because the gear is either on test, on loan or not mine. I usually have a few lenses I’m testing before deciding whether they will go into my main kit or not. The gear below is the staple kit that has stood the test of time.
Everyday Carry Camera Kit
This is what I would take with me everywhere just incase. Some of my best photos came from days when I was running errands, coming back from the gym, on the bus or out with friends.
Light Camera Kit
This is my compact kit and I use it anytime I want a minimal lightweight setup. I mostly use it when shooting at home, travelling light or going on holiday. Between these 2 lenses I’m covered for almost everything I would typically encounter. The 23mm lens is great for establishing shots while the 50mm is for subjects and details. Finally the DJI Pocket 3 is the perfect video camera for YouTube.
Travel Camera Kit
This is the kit I take with me on trips where photo and video is needed. Having tried many different combinations of lenses and focal lengths, I found this to be the most useful in almost any situation. Be it a sunny day in Italy, a rainy night in Tokyo or a long hike in Scotland. The 18mm is great for capturing vast landscapes and tight market streets. The 33mm is amazing for subjects, scenes and street photography. The 90mm will get those dreamy compression shots and reach locations further away to get all the details. The 18-50mm not only acts as a backup but also allows me to shoot quickly without changing lenses, if I want a minimal setup or in bad weather without risk. Finally the 27mm pancake will live on the XT5 with that package being my daily carry for those occasions where I don’t want to bring bulky gear. The main camera is the Fuji XH2s and the backup is the XT5. The DJI Pocket 3 is my POV / vlogging camera.
Work Camera Kit
This camera kit is what I use for client work or when I need the best performance. It’s expensive, big and heavy but this does absolutely everything one could ever need. Most people don’t need any of this.
Camera Accessories
Below are all the camera accessories I use. I don’t use all of them all the time but sooner or later they come in handy. If I am shooting a dedicated video outside, I will use the shotgun mic, although it does not come with me often. Most of YouTube is done on the the DJI Mic. It’s so versatile is great for picking up some ambient sounds as a standalone recorder. The lav I never use but it’s good just in case. The large tripod only comes for video heavy trips and nature. The small tripod comes all the time.
Bags / Travel Stuff
Finding the right bag is probably one of the hardest tasks out there. I have spent thousands buying different bags, using them from a month to a year and realising they no longer work for me. I have once and for all moved away from dedicated camera bags because they are simply not ergonomic. Not only that but the bags below look smart and clean. They don’t scream “camera gear inside” and can work with a range of outfits and occasions. Below is what I currently use and what works for me. Of course not all of them come on all the trips and it really depends on the circumstances. Some trips I will only use the small sling and the 26L bag. Other trips I will use the two small backpacks. Sometimes a duffel and a backpack work best and other times the larger hiking bag and a sling is what’s needed. There is no right or wrong, however the selection below covers every scenario.
Computers
I am firmly in the Apple ecosystem and have been for over 15 years. Although there are other alternatives, this just works for me and the tech gets out of my way. They are not cheap but they last and hold their value when it comes to re-sale. The MacBook is my main device for everything I do however it doesn’t come on most trips due to the size and risk of damage. For travel and days out I bring the 11 inch iPad Pro. It fits neatly into my sling or backpack, it’s light, small and although it’s still expensive, it’s less than half the cost of my MacBook. The Mac is my desktop and the iPad is my laptop. There will be some rare or very long term trips that would require the Mac or even both. As it stands today the iPad can do around 75% of what my Mac can so it’s ok for travel. Finally is a Samsung 8TB SSD which acts as my main backup drive while on the road. All other electronics are listed further down.
Software
When it comes to software I try and keep things minimal and simple. For every app mentioned below there are dozens of alternatives. However I found this selection to stand the test of time.
Lightroom (Main Photo Editor / Library)
Capture One (Secondary Photo Editor / Library)
Affinity Photo / Publisher / Designer (All Design Work)
Final Cut Pro (Video Editing)
Pixelmator Pro (does everything)
Unfold (Social Media Collage Maker)
Citymapper / Alltrails / Footpath / Tide Pro / OS Maps (Travel Apps)
Photo Pills (Sun Tracker)
Apple Calendar / Reminders / Notes / Freeform / Mail (Productivity)
Apple Pages / Numbers (Accounting & Admin)

Random
Below are small random items that would take years for me to individually share and link. Most of these can be found on Amazon. All of them are premium items and cheaper alternatives are available. However I personally always benefited from buying premium but buying once. Then using that item for years to come.

Home Office
Whilst I am travelling extensively for the next few years, I have no need for a permanent apartment. Instead I rent a small room in London (my hometown) where I can store a few items and use as my base whenever I am back home for a month or two. In that room I have a small editing desk as well as some more gear. Although these items are not necessary, they do make life easier and increase production quality. The screen is by far the best investment here as it makes longer editing sessions (especially video) much easier on the eyes and more productive. The Rode USB Podcast mic makes voiceovers and talking heads sound so much better.
Apple Studio Display
Apple Magic Keyboard
Logitech MX Master 3s Mouse
Rode NT-USB+ Mic
WD 5TB USB C HDD x5 (Long Term Backup)
Aputure Tri 8 LED Light
Aputure Small LED Light

Clothes
What I bring with me on a given trip depends on so many factors. Length of trip, destination, climate, activities & purpose of the visit. Below I will list out what I would bring to cover most climates and endless travel. Ranging from a mild winter of around 5-10C to a hot summer. For hot weather only trips some items will be replaced for more t-shirts and shorts. For cold weather trips, shorts will be replaced with thermals. Either way I try my best to have a capsule wardrobe. Meaning that all items are functional in more than one scenario and most of them can match with each other. I always go for clean simple looks with no logos or branding. Also I tend to go for higher quality pieces that will last a long time and avoid extreme ends of the spectrum such as fast cheap fashion and designer.
